This is a fun and sporty, rust-free 1969 Ford Fairlane 500 Cobra Convertible Custom that is ready for local and regional car show participation. This Ford started out as a rare build configuration from the factory, and was then blessed with many of the upgrades of the highly desirable Cobra Coupe, seemingly creating a one-of-a-kind Cobra Convertible. A comfortable and stylish custom saddle colored leather was tastefully chosen to upgrade the overall look and feel whether the new black convertible top is up or down. A professional quality respray of the brilliant Candy Apple Red paint (Color Code T) shows very well with a deep luster. The brightwork and trim also appear to be part of a top-quality restoration, with plenty of shine and few imperfections. The A-pillars show fine scratches but the overall appearance remains first-rate. As with the Cobras that this Fairlane was built to mimic, hood pins and hood scoop were added, along with 428, and Cobra callouts. The Magnum 500 wheels look great with the quintessential BF Goodrich white letter radial tires. The new convertible top is a deep black classic top from The Electron Top Manufacturing Company. The power top mechanism works flawlessly. The interior is more comfortable and more luxurious than when it left the factory back in 1969. This Fairlane came from the factory with a black bench seat interior. In fact, only one half of one percent of Fairlanes in 1969 were bench seat convertibles. The entire interior was replaced with correctly styled high quality leather bucket front seats, rear bench seat, and matching custom door panels and leather wrapped center console with two cupholders. The seats have the appearance of the higher end Fairlane and Torino models of the time. The saddle colored leather really stands out against the red exterior and the black top. Other welcome additions to this convertible are the Shelby GT350 wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, bright white LED lights throughout the cabin and sound dampening material to keep the drone from the exhaust out of the cabin. Mechanically, this Fairlane has received quite the Cobra treatment. Opening the hood you will see the unmistakable Cobra air cleaner, sitting on top of a Holley carburetor and Edelbrock intake manifold. The vaunted 428 Cobra Jet engine looks right at home in the engine bay with a superbly detailed presentation. Turning the key and hearing the motor come to life is smile inducing for any muscle car enthusiast. Rowing through the four speed toploader transmission is predictable and a pleasure. Gas-a-just shocks and heavy duty springs look and feel newer and help this car corner and float down the road comfortably. Putting this much power to the ground could only be done with the stout Ford nine inch rear end. This 500 has also been outfitted with air conditioning, but our inspection shows that it is not currently functioning. This Fairlane has the look and feel of a classic muscle car convertible with some welcome enhancements. It is available to be seen in our Phoenix Showroom.
